BREAKING: Governor Fubara Meets Wike, Begs for Reconciliation.

In a dramatic turn of events, suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reportedly met with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, seeking reconciliation amid the deepening political crisis in Rivers State.

Naija Blog Daily exclusively gathered that the meeting was held at Wike’s Abuja residence, with Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba present as mediators.

“Fubara walked straight into Wike’s living room because that’s a familiar terrain,” a source familiar with the development told Naija Blog Daily. “He begged the Minister,” the source added.

Although details remain sketchy, the insider, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the meeting took place.

“There was a meeting, and I can confirm that,” the source said. When asked if the meeting could lead to the lifting of the state of emergency in Rivers, he added, “That I can’t confirm, but all I know is that there was a meeting.”

Background: Fubara-Wike Feud and State of Emergency

The reconciliation attempt follows a recent meeting between Fubara and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in London, aimed at addressing the political turmoil in Rivers.

Fubara and his political godfather, Wike, have been at odds since Fubara assumed office in 2023. Their feud escalated to the point that President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing threats by Niger Delta militants to attack oil facilities.

In response to the unrest, Tinubu suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months, appointing a Sole Administrator to oversee the state.

Wike Speaks on Tinubu’s Intervention

Speaking earlier, Wike stated that he had wanted Fubara completely removed from office, but acknowledged that President Tinubu’s intervention prevented that outcome.
