Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has made a startling revelation, alleging that some Nigerian politicians and military personnel are acting as informants and collaborators for the Boko Haram insurgents.
Governor Zulum made the disclosure during a live interview on News Central’s Breakfast Central, warning that the state government would no longer tolerate sabotage and would respond ruthlessly to such betrayal.

“We have informants and collaborators within the Nigerian Armed Forces, within the political class, and within communities. We must strengthen our intelligence network and deal with them ruthlessly,” Zulum declared.
Zulum Decries Politicisation of Insecurity
He called for the depoliticisation of security matters, noting that if Nigeria focuses on action rather than political contracts, insurgency can be defeated within six months.
“Let’s remove contractocracy. In six months, we can end this madness,” he emphasized.
Repentant Boko Haram Fighters: 99% Are Reformed — Zulum
Addressing concerns over repentant Boko Haram members, Governor Zulum acknowledged that while a small number may not be fully reformed, over 99% of those who surrendered have abandoned terrorism and are contributing positively to peace efforts.
“I can’t guarantee that 100% of repentant fighters are behaving well, but I assure you that over 99% are not involved in terrorism anymore,” Zulum explained.
Call for Non-Kinetic Measures and Better Military Equipment
Zulum stressed that Nigeria cannot rely on military force alone (kinetic measures) to end terrorism. He advocated for a holistic approach, combining social, political, and economic strategies to combat insurgency.
“Insurgency cannot end through kinetic measures alone. We must implement non-kinetic strategies effectively,” he said, praising the support of the Nigerian military in non-combat initiatives.
However, he expressed concern over the military’s lack of advanced equipment and warned that insurgents sometimes have superior technology.
Zulum Urges Tinubu to Prioritize Intelligence and Professionalism
Zulum urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to listen to ground-level intelligence, including professional advice from security experts, rather than political interests.
“The President should listen to people who know what they’re doing. We should not politicise insecurity,” he stated, also revealing plans to deploy forest guards to aid in intelligence gathering.
