Nigerian singer and producer, Emoseh Khamofu, popularly known as Bloody Civilian, has revealed the biggest regret of her music career so far — not embracing TikTok early enough.
The fast-rising Afro-fusion artist, known for her unique sound and creative visuals, took to her X (formerly Twitter) page to express her frustration with her past decision to overlook the viral potential of TikTok.
“My biggest regret was being too cool for TikTok at the beginning of my career. God punish steeze,” she wrote bluntly.
TikTok’s Growing Influence in Nigerian Music
Over the past few years, TikTok has become a powerful platform for music discovery and promotion, especially in Nigeria’s dynamic entertainment scene. From viral dance trends to lip-sync challenges, the short-form video app has launched several songs — and careers — into mainstream success.
A notable example is CKay’s sleeper hit ‘Love Nwantiti’, originally released in 2019 but only went global in 2021 after gaining massive traction on TikTok. The trend catapulted the song onto global charts and boosted streams across Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and other platforms.

More recently, Skales’ 2015 hit ‘Shake Body’ experienced a resurgence in popularity after Barcelona football star Lamine Yamal danced to it in a viral TikTok video, reigniting interest in the song and increasing its streaming numbers.
New Artists Rising Through TikTok
TikTok has also played a significant role in launching the careers of new Nigerian artists like Chella, whose breakout singles ‘My Darling’, ‘Nyash Na Nyash’, and ‘Iweriwe Love’ have racked up millions of views and listens thanks to viral TikTok trends.
As for Bloody Civilian, her honesty about underestimating TikTok reflects a growing realization among artists about the importance of digital engagement in shaping music careers in the modern era.
