Former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rein in his family, following serious allegations against his son, Seyi Tinubu. Atiku made the statement through his media adviser, Paul Ibe, in a release titled “Tinubu Must Call His Family to Order: Nigeria Is Not A Private Estate”, issued on Friday.
The controversy stems from claims made by Comrade Atiku Isah, a factional leader of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), who alleged that Seyi Tinubu attempted to bribe him with N100 million in Lagos to publicly support President Tinubu. Isah further alleged that he was assaulted, stripped, and abducted by thugs on April 15 after rejecting the offer.
Seyi Tinubu, however, has strongly denied the accusations, stating he has never met Isah and accusing him of fabricating lies to tarnish his image.
Reacting to the development, Atiku condemned what he described as the First Family’s attempt to intimidate and control student leadership through bribes, threats, and violence.

“President Tinubu must urgently rein in his family members, especially Seyi Tinubu, who appears bent on purchasing political loyalty through coercion and manipulation,” Atiku said.
He described the allegations made by Comrade Isah as “deeply alarming” and a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy and civil liberties. Atiku warned that any compromise of state institutions by members of the First Family was unacceptable and dangerous.
“It is intolerable that any member of the First Family would seek to subjugate NANS or any civil group using threats, bribes, or force,” Atiku continued. “Nigeria is not a monarchy—it is a democratic republic.”
The former vice president also dismissed claims of a political alliance between himself and Isah, clarifying that their meeting focused solely on education reform and student welfare, particularly through Atiku’s institutions like the American University of Nigeria (AUN).

He called for an independent investigation into Isah’s allegations, noting the potential complicity of law enforcement agencies in the alleged assault.
“We issue a clear warning: nothing must happen to this young man. Nigerians deserve truth, accountability, and a government that upholds the rule of law,” he concluded.
This incident has sparked widespread reactions online, with many calling for justice, transparency, and respect for student rights.
