In a surprise political development, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal paid a courtesy visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his Kaduna residence on Friday.

The visit was revealed by El-Rufai’s loyalist, Imran Wakili, who posted photos and a message on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, together with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Aminu Tambuwal, and other dignitaries, visited former President Muhammadu Buhari at his Kaduna residence. El-Rufai’s endless respect for Buhari is priceless, even with the best effort of Garba Shehu.”

The meeting has sparked political speculation, especially as Atiku, El-Rufai, and Tambuwal were also in Kaduna to meet with key opposition leaders in the state.

This comes amid reports that Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and other opposition heavyweights are forming a coalition to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027. The coalition was reportedly announced during a press conference organized by the Concerned Leaders and Political Stakeholders in Nigeria.

Adding fuel to the speculation, former SDP presidential candidate Adewale Adebayo stated that Atiku and Obi are in talks to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He noted that if these political figures align with the SDP’s vision, they could defeat Tinubu and the ruling APC.

In a related twist, NNPP chieftain Buba Galadima claimed that El-Rufai is acting as a placeholder for Atiku in the SDP in case the PDP denies Atiku its 2027 presidential ticket.
