Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of corruption and habitual abuse of women. Speaking in a video published by Arise TV, Atiku criticized the leadership of the National Assembly, stating that it is compromised and lacks integrity.
Atiku’s comments come amid widespread criticism of the National Assembly’s approval of the state of emergency in Rivers State. He expressed no surprise at the decision, insisting that corruption has deeply infiltrated the Senate’s leadership.
Atiku: “Akpabio is Corrupt and Abuses Women”
Atiku, who previously served as Nigeria’s Vice President, alleged that Akpabio had a history of corruption dating back to his tenure as Akwa Ibom State Governor. He further claimed that multiple reports had linked Akpabio to acts of sexual misconduct and abuse of women.
This comes as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan formally accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, abuse of office, and legislative obstruction. In an affidavit submitted to the Senate Ethics Committee, she detailed how Akpabio allegedly made inappropriate advances towards her during a visit to his residence in Akwa Ibom State on December 8, 2023.
