APC Slams VeryDarkMan Over Comments on Akpabio’s Trip to Pope’s Funeral.

Nigerian activist and social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM),

The All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South Zonal chapter has condemned social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, for his recent verbal attack on the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

In a statement issued in Abuja by the APC Zonal Organizing Secretary, Blessing Agbomhere, the party gave VeryDarkMan a one-week ultimatum to tender an unreserved apology to Akpabio for what it described as slanderous remarks.

The controversy erupted after VeryDarkMan, in a viral three-minute video, criticized Akpabio for leading a five-man Nigerian government delegation to the funeral of Pope Francis at the Vatican. He argued that Akpabio should have instead visited Nigerian states like Benue, Plateau, Kwara, Ogun, and Enugu, currently battling rising cases of violence and killings.

Reacting, Agbomhere accused VeryDarkMan of crossing the line between activism and character assassination. He defended Akpabio’s trip, stating that the Senate President was nominated by President Bola Tinubu to represent Nigeria at the Vatican, describing him as a devout Catholic and a man of unblemished character.

“What exactly is wrong with that?” Agbomhere asked, emphasizing that Akpabio’s participation was a legitimate national duty and not a personal decision.

The APC chieftain warned VeryDarkMan to cease further attacks on Akpabio and the Tinubu administration, labeling the influencer’s actions as blackmail, slander, and character assassination under the guise of activism.

Agbomhere also urged Nigerians to disregard what he termed the ‘uninformed rantings’ of the social media star, stressing that the Tinubu government is committed to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

He pointed out that following his return from official trips to France and the UK, President Tinubu met with security chiefs, giving them marching orders to tackle insecurity with renewed strategies.

“Complex security problems cannot be solved overnight,” Agbomhere noted, “but the Tinubu-led administration is fully committed to restoring peace across Nigeria.”
