‘Anthony Joshua’s Struggles May Trigger Fury’s Return’ – George Groves Speaks on Potential Showdown.

Former WBA super middleweight champion, George Groves, has voiced his belief that Tyson Fury’s retirement earlier this year may not be permanent — and that Anthony Joshua’s recent setbacks could pave the way for a massive heavyweight comeback fight later in 2025.

In an interview with Express, via Lottoland Boxing Betting, Groves said he believes Fury will be back in the ring, especially if Joshua recovers from his injury or elbow surgery. He tipped Saudi Arabia as a likely venue for the much-anticipated Fury vs Joshua clash.

“They’ve both been boxing all their lives. They’ve made millions and achieved plenty, but I don’t think they’ll walk away when there’s still one big fight left. I’m almost certain Fury will face Joshua once he’s recovered – probably later this year in Saudi Arabia,” Groves said.

Fury’s Retirement “Means Nothing”

Groves downplayed Fury’s multiple retirements, noting that the 36-year-old has retired five times already. He emphasized that for fighters like Fury, retirement often means a temporary break, not a final exit.

“There are benefits to retiring — no more British Boxing Board rules, no strict athletic lifestyle. But it doesn’t mean he’s done. No belts to lose, and when he comes back, it only builds hype for the fight,” Groves explained.

Joshua vs Fury: A “Pick ‘Em” Heavyweight Fight

Groves strongly disagreed with Carl Froch’s statement calling the potential match-up a one-sided affair in favor of Fury. Instead, he labeled it a true “pick ‘em” fight — with both boxers bringing their strengths to the ring.

“Fury is heavier, more agile, faster hands, and smarter in the ring. But Joshua is still a great athlete, hits extremely hard, and has big-fight experience. It depends on who shows up better on the night,” Groves noted.

On Joshua’s Loss to Dubois: “Devastating”

Speaking on Anthony Joshua’s shocking knockout loss to Daniel Dubois, Groves described it as a major hit to AJ’s career.

“That fight was devastating. Joshua seemed to underestimate Dubois. He looked like he wanted to ease into it, but Dubois didn’t give him the chance and finished the fight early on one of boxing’s biggest stages,” he said.
