Ancelotti Calls for Defensive Improvement After Recent Leaks.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has called on his team to improve their defensive solidity ahead of their La Liga match against Alavés on Sunday.

The defending champions, currently second in the league, are pursuing Barcelona in the title race. Madrid recently suffered a heavy 3-0 loss to Arsenal in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-finals, and they’ve conceded 11 goals in their last four matches across all competitions.

Ancelotti reflected on his team’s defensive lapses, saying, “Above all, in recent weeks, there’s been a general dip. We have let in a lot of goals in recent games, and we have to put a stop to that, especially when those up front are not as effective as usual.”

While Barcelona faced Leganes on Saturday, Madrid focused on securing a positive result against Alaves, with Ancelotti stressing the importance of bouncing back and regaining confidence before their crucial second-leg clash with Arsenal on Wednesday.

He added, “We will try to win because it’s fundamental to get our good feeling back. Everyone is thinking about Wednesday, but all that depends on our performance tomorrow.”

Despite the defeat to Arsenal, Ancelotti remained optimistic, saying, “Each defeat is always the same, when you lose, these are difficult moments… but luckily in football, after a defeat, an opportunity arrives.”

The Italian coach also addressed concerns over his team’s physical performance, acknowledging statistics that showed Madrid had run less than Arsenal in their Champions League loss. However, Ancelotti downplayed the importance of running distance, noting that in the past, his team had won two Champions League titles despite running less than their opponents.

Ancelotti, who has faced increasing media scrutiny following the Arsenal loss, dismissed rumors suggesting he might be sacked at the end of the season. He clarified, “The contract is quite clear, and we will talk about the future at the end of the season.” His current deal runs through 2026.
