Anambra, Lagos Lead in 2025 UTME Malpractices – JAMB.

According to data released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Anambra and Lagos states top the list of exam malpractice suspects in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday at JAMB headquarters in Abuja, Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede revealed that 80 suspects are currently being interrogated by the police for various forms of examination malpractice.

New Fraud Methods Detected

  • Prof. Oloyede highlighted the emergence of new fraud tactics during the registration and examination phases. These include:
  • Biometric fraud involves the combined thumbprints of candidates and impersonators.
  • Double registration with the intent to impersonate or switch identities.
  • Collusion with CBT centres to manipulate registration processes.
  • State-by-State Breakdown
  • Anambra State tops the chart with 14 suspects—13 for impersonation and one for picture mismatch.
  • Lagos State follows with nine suspects for impersonation, spying, and illegal possession of mobile phones.

Other notable mentions:

  • Delta State – 8 suspects (impersonation)
  • Kano State – 7 suspects (impersonation, mobile phone possession)
  • Kaduna State – 6 suspects (impersonation, mobile phone possession)
  • Rivers State – 6 suspects (impersonation, possession of mobile phones and calculators)
  • Ebonyi & Enugu States – 5 suspects each (impersonation)

In a shocking twist, Oloyede disclosed that a blind candidate reportedly hired another blind undergraduate to impersonate him during the UTME.

UTME 2025: Majority Score Below 200

JAMB also announced the release of the 2025 UTME results. Of the 1.9 million candidates who sat for the exam, over 1.5 million scored below 200 marks—the average benchmark in the exam, which is scored out of 400.

Candidates were tested on four subjects, with Use of English compulsory, alongside three other subjects relevant to their intended course of study.
