Akpabio Petitions IGP Over Alleged Assassination Plot by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over an alleged assassination plot he claims was fabricated by suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

According to a letter dated April 3, 2025, obtained by Naija Blog Daily, Akpabio dismissed the accusations as false and called for a full-scale investigation and prosecution of Akpoti-Uduaghan for criminal defamation and incitement. The petition was also sent to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).

This comes days after Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, during a homecoming speech in Kogi State on April 1, 2025, alleged that Akpabio instructed former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and current Governor Usman Ododo to orchestrate her assassination in Kogi State, claiming it would be made to look like an attack by her constituents.

Reacting strongly, Akpabio described the statement as a “heinous lie” and “politically motivated defamation,” intended to incite public unrest and damage his personal and political image.

“This allegation is completely false, malicious, and lacks any form of evidence. It’s a calculated attempt to blackmail and assassinate my character,” Akpabio stated in his petition.

He further emphasized the wide media coverage of the statement, including on radio, television, newspapers, and social media, as a dangerous spread of misinformation that endangers his life and stirs public tension.

Akpabio urged the Nigeria Police Force and relevant authorities to treat the matter with urgency, citing potential risks to national security and democratic stability.

“Her public declaration was not only defamatory but intended to incite the public against me and the Nigerian Senate,” he added.

Akpabio called for Akpoti-Uduaghan to face legal action under laws relating to defamation of character, false accusation, incitement, and breach of public peace.
