Ada George Accuses Wike of Instigating Political Crisis, State of Emergency in Rivers.

Former Rivers State Governor Rufus Ada George has accused Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of masterminding the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, including the alleged push for a state of emergency and the controversial appointment of sole administrators across all 23 local government areas.

Speaking at a media briefing, Ada George, who currently chairs the Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum, blamed Wike for destabilizing the state after failing to control the political direction of the current administration.

“Wike Is the Architect of the Crisis” – Ada George

“The FCT Minister is the architect of all these things,” George stated.
“He’s fanning the flames of instability after failing to impose his political agenda on the state’s leadership.”

  • He warned that the situation in Rivers could escalate if not properly addressed, accusing Wike of visiting the state just before the controversial appointments were announced.

“He was reported to have been in Rivers on April 7, moving across key security and political circles. Following that, the announcement came through.”

Sole Administrators Appointments Condemned as Illegal

  • Ada George condemned the appointment of sole administrators to local councils, calling it unconstitutional and undemocratic.
  • “There are laid down legal processes for constituting local government leadership. This action undermines democracy and the constitution.”
  • He emphasized that the Rivers people are committed to peace but would not tolerate further provocation or imposition.
  • “We cannot go physical… but we will resist any form of action that attempts to destabilize our state.”

Forum Appeals for Calm, Seeks Legal Resolution

Despite the rising tension, the Rivers Elders Forum called for calm and urged all stakeholders, including the FCT Minister, to return to the dialogue table and pursue peace.

“We hoped he would consult with stakeholders to calm tensions, not escalate them,” George added.

Quoting Nigeria’s first president, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, he said:

“Surulere, Surulere—be patient, be silent. Let us not throw away our peace.”

Letters to Fubara and Wike Ignored

Ada George also disclosed that the Forum wrote letters to both Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Wike when the crisis began, but received no response.

“We did communicate in writing to both parties… but unfortunately, no reply came.”

The Forum reaffirmed its commitment to lawful resolution and revealed that court cases have already been initiated.
