Delta Nursing School Bows to Pressure, Withdraws Controversial Query Issued to Student Over Oluremi Tinubu.

Delta State College of Nursing Science has succumbed to public outcry and retracted the query issued to a student, Osatohemwen Edobor, for sharing a viral video featuring First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

Earlier, Edobor was sanctioned for posting footage of nursing students rejecting a song praising Mrs. Tinubu during a ‘Health Programme and Distribution of 10,000 Professional Kits’ event in Asaba, Delta State. The event’s compere had attempted to lead a chorus, singing, “Na awa mama be this; we no get another one,” but the students refuted it, responding, “Na your mama be this.”

  • The disciplinary action sparked widespread criticism from Nigerians, including activists Omoyele Sowore and human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, who demanded that the school revoke the query.

In response to mounting pressure, a letter dated March 28, 2025, and signed by Provost Mrs. R. Evbödaghe, confirmed the query’s withdrawal. The directive came from the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, who ordered the school to reverse its decision.

The letter stated:

“The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, in his magnanimity, has directed the school authority to withdraw the query issued to you on March 27, 2025.
