A Senate committee hearing on ethics, privileges, and public petitions descended into chaos on Tuesday following a heated exchange between Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi (Ebonyi North) and former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili.
The tension erupted as the committee deliberated on a petition filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

- Abiola Akiode (counsel to Akpoti-Uduaghan)
- Zubairu Yakubu (petitioner)
turned chaotic when Yakubu attempted to speak while committee chairman Neda Imaseun addressed the panel. He was instructed to mute his microphone, leading Ezekwesili to intervene.
However, Senator Nwaebonyi, who was present as a witness for Akpabio, interjected, sparking a verbal altercation.
Ezekwesili told Nwaebonyi:
“Compose yourself and stop making noise.”
Infuriated, Nwaebonyi lashed out, saying:
“You’re a fool! What do you mean? Why are you talking to me like that? I will not take it. You’re an insult to womanhood. People like you cannot be here.”
Ezekwesili retaliated, calling Nwaebonyi a “hooligan”, further escalating the confrontation and briefly halting proceedings.

Following the outburst, order was restored, and committee chairman Imaseun announced that the case was already before a court, leading to an abrupt adjournment of the hearing.
