PDP Condemns Wike, APC Over Secretariat Land Revocation, Calls It a Threat to Democracy.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government over the revocation of its Right of Occupancy for its National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, and another property under construction.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, described the action by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, as a politically motivated move aimed at stifling opposition voices and undermining democracy in Nigeria.

Why Was PDP’s Land Revoked?

According to a revocation notice issued on March 13, 2025, and signed by Chijioke Nwankwoeze, the Director of Land Administration, PDP allegedly failed to pay its annual ground rent for 20 years (from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025).

The notice referenced Section 28(5a & 5b) of the Land Use Act, which grants the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) the right to revoke land titles for non-compliance with payment obligations.

PDP Alleges Political Witch-Hunt

The PDP leadership has dismissed Wike’s claims, insisting that the revocation is a deliberate attempt to suppress the opposition and push Nigeria toward totalitarianism.

“This action is nothing but a politically motivated attack aimed at silencing the PDP. It is an abuse of power and a direct threat to democracy in Nigeria.” – PDP Statement

FCTA Takes Possession of PDP Secretariat

Minister Wike has ordered the immediate takeover of PDP’s Abuja National Secretariat, warning that possession will not be restored until all outstanding payments are cleared.

This development has further intensified political tensions, especially given Wike’s history with the PDP before defecting to the APC.
