President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd.), as the Administrator of Rivers State following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
Tinubu Suspends Governor, Deputy, and Lawmakers
The appointment came after Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months.
Announcing the decision during a national broadcast on Tuesday, Tinubu stated:

“By this declaration, the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the House of Assembly of Rivers State are hereby suspended for an initial period of six months.”
The President emphasized that the judicial arm of Rivers State remains unaffected and will continue to operate normally.

Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd.) is a seasoned military officer and former Chief of Naval Staff (2015–2021). He brings decades of leadership experience and security expertise, which Tinubu believes are crucial in stabilizing the political crisis in Rivers State.
