The Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to supporting Igbo-owned businesses and promoting sustainable economic growth across the South East region.
Governor Mbah made this known during the official opening of Afrinvest’s new regional office in Enugu, a move he described as a major boost to the state’s investment drive and economic transformation agenda.

Representing the governor at the inauguration, Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai welcomed Afrinvest to Enugu, describing the firm’s presence as “the beginning of many good things to come.” He commended Afrinvest’s reputation and diverse financial services, emphasizing that the state government is committed to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
- “Your reputation precedes you,” Ossai said. “We are excited that Afrinvest has joined the Enugu business ecosystem. We are putting in place critical infrastructure and policies that attract investors, but businesses cannot succeed without professional support services like the ones you offer. That’s why your presence here is so important.”
The deputy governor further explained that Afrinvest’s expertise would play a vital role in helping Igbo entrepreneurs build lasting, well-structured enterprises instead of the short-lived, personality-driven ventures that have dominated the region’s business culture for decades.
- “Most of the businesses we grew up knowing could not outlive their founders,” Ossai noted. “We Igbo people are known for strong personal brands, but we must begin to build institutions that can survive across generations.”
In his remarks, Dr. Ike Chioke, Group Managing Director of Afrinvest, said the firm’s decision to open an office in Enugu was inspired by Governor Mbah’s transformative policies that have made the state increasingly business-friendly and investor-attractive.
- “We’ve always had our eyes on Enugu,” Chioke said. “Although we initially planned to come during the previous administration, it was under Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership that we saw real transformation and the urgency to invest here.”
He explained that Afrinvest’s expansion into Enugu aligns with its “Aku Ruo Uno” (Think Home) philosophy — aimed at bringing over 30 years of financial expertise in investment banking, asset management, securities trading, consulting, and fintech to the heart of the South East.
Chioke lamented the lack of business continuity among many successful Igbo enterprises, citing examples like Ekene Dili Chukwu Transport Company, which collapsed after the founder’s death. He stressed that Afrinvest’s goal is to help entrepreneurs build corporate governance structures that ensure longevity and sustainability.

- “Many great Igbo businesses die with their founders,” he said. “We are here to teach structured ways of running businesses — from raising capital to hiring competent people and ensuring long-term success. With our presence in Enugu, local entrepreneurs now have direct access to expert financial and strategic advice.”
Chioke further disclosed that the decision to open the Enugu office was a strategic board resolution, leveraging long-standing relationships within the state, including Afrinvest’s sponsorship of Rangers International Football Club since 2023.
He concluded by reaffirming that Afrinvest’s establishment in Enugu marks a new era for the growth and sustainability of Igbo businesses, ensuring that the region continues to thrive economically for generations to come.
