Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has voiced serious concern over what he described as the growing hopelessness and frustration among young Nigerians about the state of the nation.

In a post shared on his Facebook page, Atiku expressed sadness about how many youths are becoming increasingly disillusioned due to hardship, bad governance, and electoral malpractice.

He noted that every conversation he has with young people reveals deep pain and discouragement over the country’s political and economic direction.

• “I am deeply worried about how young Nigerians are losing hope in the future of our country,” Atiku said. “Whenever I engage with them, they speak of bad governance, fraudulent elections, and the unbearable hardship citizens are facing — and it truly saddens me.”

Atiku revealed that he recently met with a group of youths from the 19 northern states, led by Alhaji Adamu Bappa Gombe, who shared concerns about ineffective leadership and policies that stifle businesses and livelihoods.

He said he urged them not to abandon the electoral process but instead to rise up and use their numbers to bring about positive change through the ballot box.

• “The change we all desire cannot come through voter apathy,” Atiku emphasized. “With only 25% to 30% voter turnout in every election, the situation remains discouraging. I challenged them to mobilize massively ahead of the 2027 elections and make their votes count.”

Atiku assured the young people that he remains committed to the struggle for a better, democratic Nigeria, adding that true change can only happen if citizens continue to participate actively.

• “On our part, we will not relent until Nigeria is fully rescued from anti-democratic forces,” he declared. “The youth must keep believing, keep engaging, and never lose hope in this country’s potential.”
