President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Rome, Italy, ahead of the Aqaba Process Heads of State and Government Meeting, a high-level security summit aimed at addressing the deteriorating security situation in West Africa.
The presidential jet landed at Rome Fiumicino International Airport at about 7:20 p.m. local time on Sunday. Tinubu was welcomed by senior Italian government officials, members of the Nigerian diplomatic corps, and top presidential aides.
The Aqaba Process, which officially opens on Tuesday, will bring together Heads of State, senior intelligence and military officers from several African nations, and representatives of international and non-governmental organisations.
Focus on West Africa’s Security Challenges
Discussions will centre on the region’s evolving security threats, including terrorism, organised crime, and cross-border insurgencies. Leaders are expected to adopt new strategies to strengthen cooperation and intelligence sharing to combat these challenges.
Launched in 2015 by King Abdullah II of Jordan, the Aqaba Process is a global counter-terrorism initiative designed to foster collaboration among nations combating violent extremism.

Tinubu to Hold Bilateral Meetings with World Leaders
According to a statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will not only participate in the plenary sessions but will also hold bilateral talks with other world leaders on coordinated efforts to curb insecurity across the subregion.
The sessions will also explore strategies to counter online radicalisation, disrupt digital recruitment networks, and strengthen international cooperation against extremist propaganda.
