Dangote Refinery has refuted reports claiming it imported refined premium motor spirit (PMS) with high sulphur content into Nigeria, describing such allegations as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Friday, the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery clarified that the shipment in question was not finished petrol but an intermediate feedstock intended for further refining.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has noted reports claiming it is importing finished petrol (PMS) with high sulphur content into Nigeria. These reports are false, malicious, and misleading,” the company stated.
- “The cargo in question is an intermediate feedstock, not finished petrol, and will be fully refined in our units to meet Nigerian and international quality standards,” it added.
The refinery emphasized that it operates strictly within a Free Trade Zone and only produces and sells high-quality fuels that comply with all regulatory and environmental standards.

- “Our exports of petroleum products to the United States and Europe — some of the world’s most regulated markets — demonstrate our strict adherence to global benchmarks,” the statement noted.
Dangote Refinery further explained that all its imports are accompanied by quality certificates, which are shared transparently with regulators, adding that it is open to making the documents available to the public in the interest of full transparency and accountability.
