The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the launch of a Post-Amnesty Voluntary Return and Documentation Programme (PAVRDP) for foreign nationals who failed to take advantage of the recently concluded Expired Visa Initiative (Amnesty), which ended on September 30, 2025.
In a statement issued on Friday night by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and signed by its Public Relations Officer, ACI Akinsola Akinlabi, the new programme will officially commence on October 13, 2025.

According to the NIS, the initiative is designed to give foreigners who overstayed their visas or violated immigration laws another opportunity to regularize their stay in Nigeria through proper registration and documentation.
The Service directed all affected individuals to report to the nearest Immigration Command for assessment, which will be carried out in accordance with the Immigration Act, 2015, and other relevant laws.

The NIS further warned that any foreign national who fails to comply with the directive risks arrest, detention, deportation, and possible long-term entry bans.
Additionally, the Service cautioned individuals, companies, and organizations against aiding or harbouring illegal immigrants, emphasizing that such actions are punishable under Nigerian law.
Reaffirming its commitment to orderly migration management and national security, the Nigeria Immigration Service said the Post-Amnesty Programme aims to ensure better documentation and regulation of foreign residents while promoting compliance with Nigeria’s immigration laws.
