The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled two powerful cocaine syndicates operating from Lagos, arresting a notorious kingpin believed to be behind several high-profile drug shipments to the United Kingdom.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the coordinated operation followed weeks of intense intelligence gathering and surveillance by a joint tactical team. The syndicates had reportedly perfected a smuggling route that concealed hard drugs inside legitimate export consignments headed for the UK.

Babafemi explained that the latest raid led to the discovery of multiple kilograms of cocaine cleverly hidden within cargo meant for export. The suspects were tracked and arrested at different locations in Lagos, including the Apapa port area, where one of the consignments was intercepted just before shipment.
- “The arrest of these traffickers is another significant victory in our renewed war against narcotics and organized crime,” Babafemi said. “These groups had operated in secrecy for months, using business fronts and fake documentation to move illicit substances across borders.”
The main suspect, a Lagos businessman described as the mastermind of the cartel, was arrested alongside five key associates. Investigations revealed that his group had previously coordinated multiple cocaine shipments seized by UK authorities earlier this year.
NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Retd.), praised the operatives for their precision and professionalism, noting that the agency will not relent until every member of the drug network is brought to justice.

- “This arrest sends a clear message that no drug trafficker is beyond our reach,” Marwa said. “We are committed to cleaning up Nigeria’s name internationally and protecting our youth from the destructive effects of hard drugs.”
He further emphasized that the NDLEA’s partnership with international security agencies has strengthened Nigeria’s capacity to intercept cross-border drug trafficking operations. The agency is expected to release more details as investigations continue.
The latest breakthrough adds to a series of successful crackdowns carried out by the NDLEA in recent months, highlighting the agency’s determination to dismantle major criminal syndicates and restore Nigeria’s reputation as a law-abiding nation.
