Media personality and broadcaster, Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, has blamed excessive religiosity and misplaced priorities as key factors hindering Nigeria’s progress and preventing citizens from reaching their full potential.
Speaking in an interview with Chude Jideonwo on YouTube, Daddy Freeze criticised the growing number of churches in Nigeria, stating that many of them fail to promote genuine love, unity, and transformation among their followers.
- “Ten churches on a street, no love,” he lamented, describing the situation as a reflection of widespread spiritual hypocrisy that has weakened moral and social development in the country.
Daddy Freeze also referenced chef Hilda Baci’s record-breaking cook-a-thon, commending her resilience but questioning the crowd’s response to the event.
- “I understand Hilda Baci cooking the rice. I understand her trying to break a record. I appreciate that. I respect that. I support that. But you left your house to go and watch somebody cook rice. That part, I don’t understand,” he said.

He noted that while a small gathering would have been reasonable, the turnout of over 20,000 people to witness the cook-a-thon highlighted a deeper issue of misplaced national focus.
The outspoken media figure urged Nigerians to redirect their passion, time, and energy towards innovation, productivity, and ventures that drive both individual success and national development.
According to him, until Nigerians learn to balance faith with practical action, the nation will continue to struggle with poverty, underdevelopment, and stagnation despite its abundant human and natural resources.
