The political atmosphere in Osun State is beginning to heat up ahead of the 2026 governorship election, as prominent politician and former Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has officially declared his intention to contest for governor under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Omisore made his declaration on Saturday via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the formal announcement will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Osun APC Secretariat in Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo. The event, themed “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams,” is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and is expected to attract key party stakeholders, loyalists, and supporters from across the state.

  • “My beloved people of Osun State, after deep reflection and wide consultations, I have decided to formally declare my intention to contest for the Governor of Osun State in 2026 under our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Omisore wrote.

The former lawmaker added that his mission is centered on restoring hope, strengthening governance, and building a brighter future for Osun residents.

  • “This is not just my mission, it is a collective one. I humbly invite you to join me as we take this bold step towards the Osun Rescue Mission 2026,” he added.

Omisore’s declaration is expected to reshape the political landscape of Osun State, given his vast experience and deep-rooted influence within the APC. Many political analysts see him as one of the frontrunners for the party’s ticket in what promises to be a fierce and competitive race.

A seasoned politician and technocrat, Senator Omisore has a long and eventful political career. He served as Deputy Governor of Osun State from 1999 to 2003 under the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). After his tenure, he was elected as Senator representing Osun East between 2003 and 2011, during which he also served as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

In 2014, Omisore contested for the Osun governorship seat under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but lost to then-incumbent governor Rauf Aregbesola. Four years later, he joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and ran again in 2018, showing a strong performance before later decamping to the APC in 2021.

Just a year after joining the ruling party, he made history by emerging as the National Secretary of the APC at the party’s national convention in Abuja, following the withdrawal of his main opponent.

Now, as Osun State prepares for another election cycle, Omisore’s entry into the race marks a major turning point in the build-up to Osun 2026. His political track record, administrative experience, and grassroots connection could make him a significant contender in the APC’s internal race for the governorship ticket.

With his slogan “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams,” Omisore’s campaign appears set to focus on rebuilding governance structures, revitalizing infrastructure, and renewing public trust — a message that may resonate strongly with voters seeking change and progress.

As the countdown to October 7 begins, all eyes will be on Osogbo, where Omisore’s formal declaration is expected to set the tone for what could become one of the most engaging political contests in recent Osun history.
