2026 World Cup: FIFA Rejects Calls to Ban Israel from Competition.

October 2, 2025-Published by Cyril

FIFA has rejected mounting calls to ban Israel from the 2026 World Cup, insisting that the global football body cannot “solve geopolitical problems.”

Speaking on Thursday after a council meeting in Zurich, FIFA President Gianni Infantino stressed that the organisation’s mandate is to promote peace, unity, and football development worldwide, not to intervene in political disputes.

The push to exclude Israel from international football grew amid the ongoing Gaza conflict, but discussions were halted after a peace proposal brokered at the White House by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier this week.

  • “FIFA cannot solve geopolitical problems, but it can and must promote football around the world by harnessing its unifying, educational, cultural, and humanitarian values,” Infantino stated.

Israel is scheduled to resume its 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with matches against Norway in Oslo on October 11 and Italy in Udine on October 14.
