Doctors in Hapur, India, have successfully performed a rare and complex surgery after discovering an astonishing number of foreign objects inside a man’s stomach.

According to a Times of India report, the patient — who hails from Bulandshahr — had been admitted to a de-addiction centre in Ghaziabad but was rushed to the hospital after complaining of severe abdominal pain. An ultrasound scan revealed multiple metallic items, prompting an immediate emergency operation led by Dr. Shyam Kumar.

In total, surgeons removed 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and two pens from his stomach — a case described as one of the most shocking medical incidents in recent times.

Dr. Kumar noted that the team had to carefully remove each item one by one to avoid damaging vital organs. Despite the enormous risks involved, the operation was a success, and the patient has since been discharged in a stable condition.

The man later confessed to doctors that he had felt mistreated and deprived of food at the rehabilitation centre. Out of frustration and helplessness, he began swallowing objects as an act of self-harm.
