29th September 2025-Published by Cyril

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally apologised to the government of Qatar for an airstrike targeting Hamas leaders in Doha that also claimed the life of a Qatari security guard, diplomatic sources have revealed.

According to a diplomat who spoke to AFP on condition of anonymity, the apology was delivered via a Monday telephone call from the White House to Qatar’s Prime Minister. Netanyahu reportedly expressed regret over the violation of Qatari sovereignty during the September 9, 2025, attack.

The controversial strike hit a residential area in Doha, where senior Hamas officials were scheduled to review a US-brokered Gaza ceasefire proposal. While the Israeli leader initially defended the operation, he later softened his stance following strong pushback from Washington.

US President Donald Trump, known for his close ties with Qatar, expressed dissatisfaction with Israel’s actions, stressing that the attack undermined ongoing truce negotiations in Gaza.

The development comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) session also spotlighting Nigeria’s participation in global peace and diplomatic efforts.
