The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly declared support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the February 2026 FCT Area Council elections, urging residents to rally behind the ruling party.
Wike backs Maikalangu for re-election
Speaking at the flag-off of a 7km road project with four-span bridges linking Tunga Madaki to eight other communities, Wike endorsed the incumbent Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Wike praised Maikalangu as “a tireless advocate for his people”, noting that his persistent push ensured the project’s approval. He urged residents to reward the APC with their votes, declaring:
- “One good turn deserves another. When you do for me, I do for you. When you fall for me, I fall for you. When you listen to me, I listen to you.”
Road project as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda
According to the FCT Minister, the project is a direct fulfillment of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and compensation for residents who gave up their ancestral land during the construction of the second runway at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

He disclosed that the road, being constructed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), will be completed and commissioned in June 2026, coinciding with Tinubu’s third year in office.
A call to vote for APC in 2026
Wike urged the people of Tunga Madaki to stand with the ruling party in the coming elections:
“You have had council chairmen before—did anyone remember Tunga Madaki? Did they connect you to the airport whose land you gave away? This is the time to stand with the party that brought development to your doorstep.”
Political significance
The 2026 FCT Council Polls will be a major test of the APC’s political dominance in Abuja, as no ruling party has ever won all six area councils in the capital. Wike’s endorsement of APC is expected to strengthen the party’s campaign, particularly in AMAC.
