The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has called on Governor Monday Okpebholo to provide detailed explanations regarding his recent claim of a $250 million investment secured from Glasgow.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Benin City, the party’s newly appointed Publicity Secretary, Daniel Osa-Ogbegie, said the opposition would not only demand accountability on the investment but also raise concerns over the alleged abandonment of projects initiated under the previous administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Osa-Ogbegie stressed that the PDP would scrutinize the government’s fiscal management practices, which he claimed appear to disregard transparency and responsibility.

He assured that while the PDP respects constituted authority and institutions of governance, its loyalty remains with the people of Edo State.

  • “Where government policies uplift the people, we shall lend our support; but where governance falters into oppression, waste, or deception, we shall stand firmly with the people,” Osa-Ogbegie declared.

The Edo PDP spokesman also cautioned the APC Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadia, and the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Paul Ohonbamu, against what he described as “reckless insults” directed at opposition figures.

He vowed that the era of allowing opposition leaders to be turned into “punching bags” was over, insisting that every falsehood and half-truth from the ruling party would now be countered with facts and records.

“The Governor’s penchant for abusing opposition leaders is beneath the dignity of his office and will no longer be tolerated. If the government believes in its policies, let it defend them with substance, not with invectives,” he added.
