The Labour Party (LP) has condemned an alleged physical assault on its National Chairman, Julius Abure, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s spokesperson, Obiora Ifoh, the incident happened on Friday when a woman identified as Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P, launched an attack on Abure while he was waiting to board a Max Air flight to Benin.

Ifoh revealed that Mama P, a content creator, not only attacked Abure at the airport but also continued the confrontation onboard the flight despite pleas from Max Air attendants to stop. The altercation reportedly dragged on until they arrived at Benin Airport, where she kept recording the episode.

  • “The attacker, Madam P, who is a known content creator, continued the aggression all through the flight and even after disembarking in Benin. It took the intervention of security operatives to rescue Abure, while she was handed over to the police,” Ifoh stated.

The Labour Party further expressed shock over a video released by Mama P, where she allegedly boasted about her high-level police connections and threatened to keep targeting Abure and other LP executives.

In her words, Abure is “the reason why Peter Obi is no longer in the Labour Party.”

The party leadership described the incident as a politically motivated “suicidal aggression” against Abure, alleging that she was working for unnamed sponsors determined to destabilize the LP.

  • “We believe this lady-agent was on assignment for her paymasters. Assault and cyberbullying are criminal acts, and the police must identify and prosecute her sponsors,” Ifoh added.

The Labour Party urged members of the Obidient Movement and supporters across Nigeria to remain calm and not retaliate while investigations are ongoing.

This attack comes amid ongoing leadership tussles within the LP. Since Peter Obi’s rise in the 2023 general elections, Julius Abure has battled multiple court cases and rival factions. Although the Court of Appeal previously upheld his chairmanship, an April 2025 Supreme Court ruling raised fresh questions about the legitimacy of his tenure.

With internal divisions still unresolved, the Abuja airport drama has added fresh tension to the Labour Party’s already fragile leadership crisis.
