President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a strong warning to Nigerian Christian pilgrims traveling to Israel and Jordan, urging them not to abscond during pilgrimage, stressing that “there is no country like Nigeria.”
The President gave this caution at the official flag-off of the delayed Easter Pilgrimage exercise organized by the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, Imo State. He was represented at the ceremony by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
Tinubu emphasized that pilgrimage is a spiritual journey of faith, not an opportunity for absconding. He commended the leadership of NCPC under Bishop Stephen Adegbite for successfully coordinating four pilgrimages to the Holy Land, as well as Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who sponsored 1,000 pilgrims in 2023 and another 1,000 this year.

In his remarks, Governor Uzodimma urged the pilgrims to pray for peace in Nigeria and for God’s wisdom upon President Tinubu. Similarly, Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, encouraged the pilgrims to embrace the journey as a time of spiritual rebirth.
Bishop Stephen Adegbite also reminded the 350 intending pilgrims from Imo and Abia States to be good ambassadors of Christ and Nigeria while thanking the SGF for his effective supervisory role.
This marks the first-ever Christian pilgrimage airlift from Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, a historic moment for the faithful in Imo and Abia States.
