Veteran midfielder Luka Modric proved age is just a number as he scored his first goal for AC Milan in their 1-0 victory over Bologna at the San Siro on Sunday. The six-time UEFA Champions League winner, who joined Milan on a free transfer after 13 years at Real Madrid, netted the decisive strike just days after celebrating his 40th birthday.
Modric orchestrated the move from midfield before finishing off Alexis Saelemaekers’ low cross with a clinical first-time shot. “I hope next time someone won’t remind me of my age anymore!” Modric joked in his post-match interview. He praised the team’s spirit, adding: “Game by game, we will gain more confidence and I’m sure we will get even better.”
The Rossoneri also saw Adrien Rabiot shine on his debut alongside Modric, while Christopher Nkunku nearly marked his Milan debut with a penalty before VAR overturned the decision. The drama escalated as head coach Massimiliano Allegri was sent off for protesting the referee’s late call.

Despite striking the woodwork three times, Milan secured their first home win of the Serie A season, moving up to fifth place with six points, level with Cremonese and Roma, who suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Torino.
However, the night was not without setbacks as goalkeeper Mike Maignan limped off with a right calf injury. Allegri confirmed Maignan will miss next Saturday’s Serie A clash against Udinese.
