A three-storey building under construction collapsed on Friday night, September 12, 2025, at 333 Borno Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos State, leaving several people trapped beneath the rubble.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m., prompting an immediate search and rescue operation involving NEMA, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, police, FRSC, and NSCDC officials.

Initial reports indicated that four adult males were rescued alive and rushed to the hospital for treatment. However, in its Day 2 update on Saturday, NEMA revealed that one body (male) was recovered from the debris, raising the casualty count. Rescuers also suspect that two more persons may still be trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
The Lagos Fire Service separately reported that eight construction workers had been rescued from the scene, though the figures have yet to be fully harmonized across responding agencies.
Authorities say the site has been cordoned off to ensure safety while emergency teams continue the operation into the night. NEMA assured that no effort will be spared in saving lives
