Head coach of the Benin Republic national team, Gernot Rohr, has questioned the delay by FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in enforcing a possible three-point deduction against South Africa in the ongoing 2026 World Cup Qualifiers (WCQ).
Rohr, who previously served as Super Eagles technical adviser, insists that South Africa should be punished for fielding an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, during their 2-0 victory over Lesotho in March.
The coach argued that the uncertainty surrounding the case has left Group C teams — including Nigeria, Benin Republic, and Rwanda — unsure of their qualification chances.

- Speaking after Benin’s 1-0 win over Zimbabwe, Rohr told Mega Sports:
“South Africa won against Lesotho? Okay, but the match that matters is the first leg, where they have to lose the three points. The rules are very, very clear. We don’t know why FIFA and CAF haven’t yet decided to take the points away from them. It is not normal. We don’t know where we stand. We have 11 points after this match today. South Africa has to lose three points and then we will be only two points behind our opponent. What are they waiting for? I don’t know. It is incomprehensible.”
Rohr’s remarks underline growing frustration among Group C nations as the World Cup qualifiers enter a decisive stage, with the outcome of FIFA’s ruling set to significantly affect the group standings.
