The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has vowed that the eight officers killed by suspected kidnappers in Edo State will be given a befitting burial with full honours.

In a statement issued by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Babawale, the NSCDC boss described the slain operatives as patriots who paid the ultimate price while protecting critical national assets. He directed the Edo State Commandant and senior officers to personally visit the families of the deceased, extend condolences, and ensure arrangements for their honourable burial.

Audi also assured that the medical expenses of the injured officers under intensive care would be fully covered, stressing that their quick recovery was a top priority. He emphasized that the tragic incident would not deter the Corps from its statutory duty of safeguarding lives, property, and infrastructure across Nigeria.

Giving details of the attack, the Commandant General explained that armed kidnappers ambushed a convoy of NSCDC operatives and expatriates attached to BUA Cement Company, Okpella, in Etsako East Local Government Area on Friday, September 5, 2025. The assault left eight NSCDC personnel dead, four others injured, one Chinese expatriate abducted, and four expatriates rescued.

Audi condemned the attack as “grievous and barbaric,” urging the public to disregard false reports circulating online. He reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare and safety of NSCDC officers, while also appreciating the support of other security agencies working with the Corps to comb the forests, rescue the abducted expatriate, and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Their labor, patriotism, and sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Audi said, pledging that the fallen heroes will be remembered for their bravery in the line of duty.
