Tension rocked Garko Police Division in Kano State on Friday, September 5, 2025, after a mob attacked the station, leaving one person dead, several others injured, and properties destroyed.

According to a statement released by the Kano State Police Command on Saturday, the unrest began after officers from Wudil Area Command arrested three suspects linked to the killing of a resident. The suspects were taken to the Garko Police Division for interrogation when a group of irate youths, armed with sticks and stones, stormed the station, demanding jungle justice.

The attack resulted in heavy destruction, including the burning of a divisional patrol vehicle, damage to three vehicles belonging to Hisbah and Garko Local Government Council, and shattered windows of the police building. Three officers were injured and rushed to Wudil Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Amid the chaos, tragedy struck when a burning tyre burst, fatally hitting one of the attackers, while three others sustained injuries. Police confirmed that nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the mob action, with investigations underway to apprehend other culprits.

The Commissioner of Police swiftly deployed containment measures and engaged community stakeholders to restore calm and order in the area. The Command warned against taking the law into one’s hands, stressing that all suspects involved in the killing and the mob attack will face justice.
