The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a public health advisory following the recent declaration of an Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In a statement released on Saturday via its official Facebook page, the agency emphasized that no Ebola cases have been detected in Nigeria but assured citizens that it is closely monitoring the situation to ensure early detection and preparedness.

The NCDC urged the public to take preventive measures, including frequent handwashing with soap and running water, avoiding direct contact with individuals showing symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, or unexplained bleeding, refraining from consuming bushmeat, and ensuring animal products are thoroughly cooked.

Healthcare workers were also reminded to strictly follow infection prevention and control protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment when managing patients. Additionally, the agency advised individuals who recently traveled to affected areas and develop symptoms to immediately call the NCDC hotline (6232) or report to their State Ministry of Health.

The full advisory is available on the NCDC website.
