As Muslims across Nigeria join the global Ummah to celebrate Eid-el-Maulud, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), political leaders and stakeholders have extended goodwill messages while urging reflection on the Prophet’s values of peace, tolerance, and unity.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, congratulated Nigerians, particularly the Muslim faithful, on the occasion. The opposition party described the celebration as a call for national rebirth, justice, and unity, while condemning what it termed the oppressive policies of the APC-led Federal Government.

According to the PDP, Eid-el-Maulud offers Nigerians and leaders alike an opportunity to retrace their steps, seek divine guidance, and embrace values that promote accountability, compassion, and national progress.

The party accused the Tinubu administration of insensitivity, alleging that its economic and governance policies have worsened hardship, insecurity, and corruption in the country.

  • “It is heartrending that millions of Nigerians cannot afford to commemorate this significant occasion due to excruciating hardship, while APC leaders continue to display arrogance and extravagance,” the PDP said.

Meanwhile, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, also joined in the Eid-el-Maulud message, urging Muslims to embody the teachings and lifestyle of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, the governor encouraged the faithful to embrace the virtues of peace, love, tolerance, and unity, stressing that the Prophet’s example remains a guide for building a just and harmonious society.

Governor Yusuf further called on citizens to pray for peace, prosperity, and progress in Kano State and Nigeria at large, while emphasizing the importance of peaceful coexistence across religious and ethnic divides.

Eid-el-Maulud, celebrated in the Islamic month of Rabi’ al-Awwal, is marked with prayers, lectures, charity, and processions. The Federal Government had earlier declared Friday, September 5, a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s celebration.
