Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Wednesday, led a delegation of North East governors to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The high-level meeting focused on critical developmental challenges in the region, including the urgent completion of 17 neglected road projects and the resumption of oil exploration in frontier wells, particularly at the Kolmani and Lake Chad basins.
Governors present at the meeting were Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Bala Muhammad (Bauchi), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba).
Key Demands by the North East Governors
Governor Zulum, who doubles as the Chairman of the North East Governors’ Forum, listed critical roads for immediate completion to strengthen economic activities and regional integration. These include:
- Kano–Maiduguri Road
- Port Harcourt–Jos–Bauchi–Maiduguri Railway Line
- Bama–Mubi–Yola Road
- Wukari–Jalingo–Yola Road
- Duguri–Mansur Road (NNPC ongoing project)
- Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Damaturu Road
- Damaturu–Geidam Road
- Bauchi–Ningi–Nasaru–Babaldo Road
- Gombe–Potiskum, Damaturu–Biu Roads
- Alkaleri–Futuk Road
- Maiduguri–Damboa–Yola Road
- Gombe–Dukku–Darazo Road
- Biu–Gombe Road
- Ibi–Shamdam Road
- Maiduguri–Monguno–Baga Road
- Maiduguri–Ngala–Bama–Banki Roads

Zulum commended the president for sustaining peace efforts in the sub-region and reaffirmed the governors’ commitment to Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly on food security, manpower training, and the use of technology to combat insecurity.
- “We are fully aligning with Mr. President’s good initiative of training manpower and providing technology with a view to reducing insurgency and promoting agricultural development,” Zulum said.
Tinubu’s Response
President Tinubu acknowledged the concerns raised and reassured the governors of his administration’s determination to prioritise infrastructure, security, and economic revival in the North East.
