Veteran Nigerian highlife musician, Bright Chimezie, has dismissed the belief held by some artists that smoking and alcohol consumption enhance creativity.

Speaking on a recent episode of the CreativTea Podcast, the legendary “Because of English” crooner stated that such claims are misleading. He maintained that smoking and drinking are simply avenues for pleasure and relaxation, not sources of artistic inspiration.

“I agree that all of the artists smoking or drinking are only having a good time and not boosting their creativity,” Chimezie said.

He further emphasized that true musical inspiration flows naturally and cannot be forced through substances such as alcohol or drugs.
