The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has firmly disowned Finland-based separatist agitator, Mazi Simon Ekpa, insisting that he has never been a member of the movement.

The clarification comes after Ekpa’s sentencing in Finland over terrorism-related charges, which have sparked attempts to link him with IPOB.

In a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, IPOB stressed that the matter had already been settled in Finnish courts.

• “The record is clear. IPOB, under oath in a Finnish court, testified that Simon Ekpa has never held any position in IPOB or ESN. Ekpa himself, under oath, admitted that he is merely a content creator and disowned IPOB,” the statement read.

IPOB Stresses Nonviolent Identity

The group emphasized that IPOB is a nonviolent organization registered under international law and remains committed to lawful self-determination. It also accused Ekpa of floating parallel groups and initiatives that are not recognized by IPOB.

Call for Fair Trial of Nnamdi Kanu

Reiterating that its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is currently facing trial in Nigeria, IPOB urged that his case be handled fairly and according to international standards.

The group further appealed to the international community—including the European Union, Finland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the United Nations—to ensure that Kanu’s judicial process is not misrepresented or influenced by Ekpa’s case.

“The Finnish court has already clarified that IPOB is not linked to Simon Ekpa, and we expect that this should not be twisted,” the statement added.
