Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed disappointment after his side suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in Sunday’s Premier League top-of-the-table clash at Anfield.
The game was decided by a stunning late strike from Dominik Szoboszlai, who scored a brilliant free-kick with just seven minutes left on the clock to hand the defending champions all three points.
Arteta: Game Settled by “Moment of Magic”
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Arteta admitted the contest was evenly balanced but ultimately determined by a decisive moment.

- “I am very disappointed with the result. I’m very proud of my players. Both sets of players had to dig in to a level where there was nothing between the two. It was going to be decided by an individual error or a moment of magic,” Arteta said.
The Arsenal boss insisted that his team’s performance showed progress compared to last season but stressed the importance of converting chances in big matches.

- “You cannot dominate here for 90 minutes, it is impossible. At the end of the game, I said we have to find a way to win these big matches. You have to put the ball in the back of the net when you have it. We were much better than last year, much better. We have to put the ball in the back of the net if you want to win the game.”
Arsenal Suffer Injury Setback
Arteta also revealed that Arsenal’s injury problems worsened before and during the clash, with several key players sidelined.
- “We lost Martin [Odegaard], we lost Kai [Havertz] and then we lost Bukayo [Saka]. In the warm-up, we lost Saliba,” he disclosed.
The defeat leaves Arsenal trailing Liverpool by three points after three matches of the new Premier League campaign.
