The Federal Government has insisted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has been fair and just in the distribution of projects, appointments, and opportunities across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
In a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, the government dismissed claims of lopsided development, stressing that Tinubu has demonstrated “uncommon commitment to fairness, equity, and inclusivity” since assuming office in May 2023.
Balanced Infrastructure Development
The statement emphasized that no region has been ignored in the allocation of federal projects. It noted that in addition to initiatives by various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, all six regions now have Regional Development Commissions to drive growth.
The government highlighted key infrastructure such as the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway running through the South and the Badagry–Sokoto Highway, which traverses the North.
- “This sense of balance runs through all the major infrastructure projects being implemented today. Major infrastructural interventions are simultaneously ongoing across the federation—from highways and bridges to rail and power projects,” the statement read.
Rail and Job Creation
According to the statement, the administration has secured ₦150 billion for a light rail project in Kano and ₦100 billion for Kaduna, while Lagos and Ogun states are also benefiting from metroline developments.
- Collectively, these rail projects and other infrastructure initiatives are expected to create over 250,000 jobs nationwide.
The government further disclosed that rehabilitation works are ongoing on the Eastern Rail Corridor from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri. In addition, over 1,000 primary health care centres have been refurbished across Nigeria to strengthen human capital and social infrastructure.
