The Vice President of Colombia, Francia Márquez, has arrived in Abuja for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Colombia.
Márquez, accompanied by her spouse, Mr. Rafael Yerney Pinillo Ocoró, touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Saturday, where she was warmly received by senior Nigerian government officials.
Among those present to welcome her were:
- Chief Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology
- Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Minister of Women’s Affairs
- Dr. Mariya Mahmud Bunkure, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory
- Mrs. Zubaida Umar, Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)
According to a statement from Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), the visit is expected to deepen diplomatic and strategic cooperation across multiple sectors, including governance, trade, agriculture, education, energy, and security.
The Colombian Vice President is also accompanied by top cabinet ministers, senior government officials, and private sector leaders who will engage their Nigerian counterparts in bilateral meetings.

A major highlight of the visit will be the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering critical areas such as women empowerment, trade, agriculture, aviation, manufacturing, and cultural exchange.
Other scheduled activities include:
- A plenary session with both Vice Presidents
- The Nigeria–Colombia Business Forum
- Government-to-government engagements
- High-level business meetings hosted by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment
- A special summit on Artificial Intelligence
The visit marks a significant milestone in Nigeria–Colombia relations, setting the stage for stronger partnerships that foster economic growth, sustainable development, and peace.
