President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a new welfare policy that guarantees lifetime salary benefits for senior officers of the Ministry of Interior retiring from the rank of Deputy Controller, Comptroller, or Commandant-General and above.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on Thursday during the 2025 Ministerial Retreat, where he highlighted key achievements of the ministry under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to a statement signed by DCF PO Abraham, Head of Corporate Services of the Federal Fire Service, the policy is a significant milestone in boosting the welfare of senior officers.
“In recognition of the sacrifices of our senior officers, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has graciously approved lifetime salary benefits for those retiring at senior ranks,” the statement read.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo expressed gratitude to the President for his continuous support, noting that the policy reflects Tinubu’s commitment to improving institutional performance across all Interior agencies.
He also disclosed that over 50,000 officers have benefited from long-overdue promotions within the last two years, stressing that future career progression will now be based on performance and capacity.

The minister revealed that new training manuals have been introduced while construction is ongoing for a world-class Fire Academy designed to rival international institutions such as the Arizona Fire Academy.
Furthermore, he underscored the ministry’s commitment to mental health and officer well-being while urging the Federal Fire Service to embrace private sector partnerships to improve service delivery, modern firefighting operations, and infrastructure development in Nigeria.
