Football fans are set for a blockbuster Champions League group phase after Thursday’s draw in Monaco served up headline clashes across Europe. Liverpool and Manchester City will both meet Real Madrid, while defending champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) were handed a daunting path featuring Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Xabi Alonso’s Madrid will host Man City at the Bernabéu and visit Liverpool at Anfield, two fixtures already tipped as show-stoppers of the new-format league phase.

Liverpool—top of last season’s league table before a last-16 exit to PSG—also face Atletico Madrid, PSV Eindhoven, Qarabag at home, and away trips to Inter Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt, Marseille, and Galatasaray.

Under UEFA’s ‘Swiss-style’ format, all 36 clubs play eight games against eight different opponents in a single league table. The top eight qualify directly for the round of 16; 9th–24th enter play-offs; 25th–36th are eliminated. The opening matchdays run September 16–18, with the final set for May 30, 2026, in Budapest (kick-off 6:00 pm local time).
