The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has officially announced the nominees for its highly anticipated 2025 edition, and Nigerian stars once again dominate the spotlight.
This year’s awards recorded a historic 10,717 entries, setting the stage for one of the fiercest competitions in AFRIMA history.

Leading the pack are Burna Boy and Davido, who bagged five nominations each, including the coveted Album of the Year category for their projects “No Sign of Weakness” and “5ive.” The duo will also face off in Song of the Year and Best Collaboration.
Rising star Shallipopi secured four nominations, including Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year for his hit collaboration “Laho.” Meanwhile, Ayra Starr earned two nominations, going head-to-head with Burna Boy, Davido, and Moroccan rapper El Grande Toto in the Artiste of the Year category.
Beyond Nigeria, the nominations also spotlight Africa’s diverse music scene. DJ Maphorisa (South Africa), El Grande Toto (Morocco), Mia Guissé (Senegal), and Moliy (Ghana) each bagged five nominations. Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Tyla (South Africa), and Uncle Waffles (Eswatini) followed closely with four each.

The grand celebration of African music will take place in Lagos from November 25–30, featuring key events such as the AFRIMA Music Village, Africa Music Business Summit, Nominees Party, and the star-studded awards finale on November 30. The ceremony will be broadcast live to over 84 countries, showcasing the global power of African sounds.
AFRIMA jury member Delani Makhalima hailed the nominees, saying:
- “For years our voices were not heard, but today African music is global. This is AFRIMA, the biggest music entity on the continent.”
The 2025 AFRIMA reflects not just Nigeria’s dominance, but also the richness and global reach of African music across cultures and borders.
