The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its nationwide war against drug trafficking, capturing a long-wanted cartel leader, intercepting international drug consignments, and raiding a Lagos hotel notorious for distributing “party drugs.”
Major Arrest: Okpara Chigozie Nabbed After 7 Years on the Run
In a decisive operation on Sunday, July 13, 2025, NDLEA operatives arrested 60-year-old Okpara Paul Chigozie, a major drug kingpin who had evaded arrest since 2019. He was apprehended at his hideout on Michael Ojo Street, Isheri, Ojo, Lagos, after officers intercepted his courier along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.
- “Okpara has been on our wanted list since 2019. His arrest marks the end of a seven-year chase,” NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi confirmed.
During the search, 7.6kg of cocaine and 900g of methamphetamine were found concealed in a white Toyota Sienna heading to Onitsha, Anambra State. The courier, Achebe Kenneth Nnamdi (51), was also arrested. A follow-up raid on Okpara’s residence uncovered an additional 1.8kg of cocaine and 1.3kg of methamphetamine.
Airport & International Seizures
- Murtala Muhammed International Airport (Lagos): NDLEA officers recovered 7,790 pills of tramadol and Rohypnol from passenger Omoregie Uyiosa, who confessed to plans of selling the drugs abroad.
- Export Shed Bust: On July 17, 17 parcels of skunk (1.70kg) concealed in packs of Golden Morn cereal were seized en route to Pakistan. Suspect Chioba Robert Uchenna was arrested.
Lagos Hotel Raid: ‘Party Drugs’ Operation Busted
On Saturday, July 19, NDLEA stormed Sarah Sam Hotels on Ogudu Road, Kosofe, where cannabis-infused gummies and chocolate drugs were being distributed. Seized items include:
- 1.3kg of chocolate cannabis
- 900g cannabis gummies
- 22.9g skunk
- Three vehicles
Other Statewide Operations
- Kaduna: 742.8kg of skunk and Colorado seized; suspects Onyeka Madu, Monday Nwadishi, and Emmanuel Madu arrested.
- Kano: 36,000 tramadol pills seized from Lawan Rabiu along Danbatta-Kazaure Road.
- Gombe: 25,000 tramadol & exol-5 pills seized; 49 blocks of skunk (29kg) recovered.
- Borno: 74,360 opioid pills intercepted in Maiduguri; suspect Audu Modu (44) arrested.
- Bayelsa: Akuna Nelson (63) caught with 163 litres of ‘skuchies’.
- Kogi: 2kg of methamphetamine seized from four suspects along the Okene-Lokoja highway.
- Abia: Raid at 4 Niger Street, Aba uncovered tramadol, cocaine, heroin, meth, and ₦736,000 cash from dealer Nduka Obi (39).
