Tinubu Presides Over Special FEC Session to Honour Late President Buhari.

Abuja, Nigeria — July 17, 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday presided over a special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session held in honour of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82.

The expanded FEC meeting, which commenced at 5:27 p.m. inside the Council Chamber, State House, Abuja, was attended by leaders of the National Assembly, the Judiciary, ministers, and family representatives of the late president.

Buhari’s son, Yusuf Buhari, led three of his siblings into the chamber at about 5:15 p.m., ahead of the session, which marks the first commemorative FEC meeting since Tinubu assumed office in 2023.

The event followed Buhari’s burial in Daura on July 15 and the third-day prayer (fidau) in his hometown earlier this week. Tinubu had earlier ordered national flags at half-mast across the country and directed full state honours for the late leader.
