LASIEC Presents Certificates of Return to Newly Elected LG and LCDA Officials in Lagos State.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on Wednesday officially presented Certificates of Return to the newly elected Chairmen, Vice-Chairmen, and Councillors who emerged victorious in the recently concluded 2025 Local Government and Local Council Development Area (LG/LCDA) elections.

The event, held at LASIEC headquarters in Sabo, Yaba, marked the official confirmation of the mandate given by Lagos voters to their new grassroots leaders.

LASIEC Chairman Hails Democratic Progress

Presiding over the ceremony, LASIEC Chairman, Justice Ayotunde Phillips Okikiolu-Ighile, described the occasion as a “significant milestone” in Lagos State’s democratic journey.

“This event transcends the mere presentation of certificates. It represents the embodiment of democratic values and the culmination of months of strategic planning, civic involvement, and institutional collaboration,” she said.

Justice Okikiolu-Ighile expressed gratitude to the people of Lagos for their active participation and praised stakeholders, including political parties, security agencies, civil society groups, traditional rulers, youth and market associations, faith-based organisations, and accredited election observers for their role in ensuring a peaceful and credible election.

LASIEC Highlights Record Voter Turnout

Addressing journalists, the LASIEC Chairman noted that the election recorded a 24% voter turnout, a significant improvement compared to the 10% recorded in 2021. She attributed this to aggressive voter education and sensitization campaigns, which included billboard adverts and branded public transportation across the state.

Observers, both local and international, commended the elections as one of the most peaceful and orderly LG polls in recent Lagos history, despite initial logistical challenges.

Justice Okikiolu-Ighile also commended LASIEC staff and ad-hoc personnel for their commitment and resilience during the electoral process.
